Healthier minds,
better lives

Serving clients in Texas, Colorado, and Virginia

At Downstream Counseling & Integration, we offer traditional counseling, EMDR, and psychedelic integration counseling for those who have had, or are planning to have, experiences with non-ordinary states of consciousness (sometimes referred to as altered states of consciousness).

Life presents challenges, and the ways we seek to address those challenges are fundamentally personal choices. We assist people who are looking for help with the challenges in their lives, past experiences and traumas, and/or integrating their experiences with psychedelics, meditation, or other non-ordinary states.

Services

You are one of a kind.
Your therapy should be too.

Traditional Counseling

Life can be challenging. That is unavoidable. Going through it alone is optional. We are here to help.

We use modalities that best fit a client’s needs and current situation, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based practices.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a technique that has often shown to be effective in the reduction of symptoms associated with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Regardless of your past experiences, you deserve and can have a happier and more fulfilling life.

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

The use of ketamine treatments for depression and other mental health disorders has become increasingly popular.

While ketamine is not a miracle cure, many patients who receive ketamine do find benefit from their treatments.

One of the reasons many people consider ketamine as a treatment option is the flexibility that is afforded with at-home ketamine treatments.

For clients receiving at-home ketamine treatments, we offer ketamine-assisted psychotherapy sessions.  During your ketamine sessions, a fully trained and certified Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy will provide space for you to process any thoughts and feelings that may arise.

Unfortunately, access to a Licensed Professional Counselor to guide you during your session is often not a service provided by clinics and services that offer at-home ketamine treatments. Many services do provide access to a coach or guide, and many find great benefit from such a service.  Patients seeking or receiving ketamine should keep in mind that the credentials that coaches and guides possess can vary greatly, as can the training they receive.

As a non-medical mental health therapy practice, we do not recommend, prescribe, or administer any medications.

Therapy for Ketamine Patients

The use of ketamine treatments for depression and other mental health disorders has become increasingly popular.

While ketamine is not a miracle cure, many patients who receive ketamine do find benefit from their treatments.

Unfortunately, not all ketamine clinics offer the services of an experienced and certified Licensed Professional Counselor for pre- and post-treatment counseling.  In such circumstances, patients may find benefit in consulting with a Licensed Professional Counselor before and/or after their treatments in an effort to maximize the benefit they receive from their treatments.

As a non-medical mental health therapy practice, we do not recommend, prescribe, or administer any medications.

Psychedelic Integration

We offer counseling to help those who have had or are planning to have experiences with psychedelic medicines, meditation, breath work, and other practices leading to non-ordinary states of consciousness (sometimes referred to as altered states of consciousness).

We do not condemn or condone the use of psychedelic medicines or practices that lead to non-ordinary states.

While we do not recommend that clients engage in any illegal or potentially harmful behaviors, consulting with an experienced, licensed, and certified clinician whose approach is non-judgmental can often be helpful for those planning an experience with psychedelic medicines and for those who have had  past experiences.

If you are seeking support for personal growth, spiritual development, or healing from past traumas, we seek to help you maximize the benefit from your experiences.

Clinical Supervision

We offer clinical supervision for LPC Associates in Texas because we believe that adequate post-graduate training is essential to future client success.

Madeleine Burgess, LPC-S provides supervision for select individuals whose experience and/or professional goals align with her own expertise and areas of focus.

Interested LPC Associates, recent graduates, and graduate students in their final semester of study are encouraged to submit preliminary information here.
